One thing about Savannah vacation rentals in Georgia is that they often give you a great opportunity to be right in the middle of the city and within walking distance to many services and attractions. Savannah is known for being extremely walkable and you’ll love strolling the tree-lined streets, looking at the historic architecture and keeping an eye out for that next restaurant or attraction. Coach’s Corner is right in the midst of Savannah’s historic district and it puts you within walking distance of a few famous squares. These squares and parks are located throughout Savannah and feature lush green spaces along with historic monuments, markers and statues. Probably the two most famous historic parks are Forsyth Park and the Colonial Park Cemetery. Both are sprawling green areas perfect for walking. At the cemetery, you’ll find the final resting places of some of Savannah’s earliest and most famous residents. It’s also a local hot spot for ghost sightings and you can expect to visit it if you take one of the many ghost tours in the city.
Savannah itself is almost like a living historical monument and nearly everywhere you go has some kind of history behind it. The churches in the city often date back decades if not a century or two and feature notable architecture. The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist is an example of Gothic architecture and was built in the 1870s. The Independent Presbyterian Church dates back to 1755 and features a majestic tall steeple that can be seen in the opening of “Forrest Gump” and Corinthian columns. There are a number of other old churches in the city including the First Bryan Baptist Church, Temple Mickve Israel and the Lutheran Church of the Ascension. If you’re curious about other Savannah locations used in movies, then don’t forget to visit the Mercer-Williams House and Forsyth Park, which were both featured in the “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.”
Savannah features a number of special events and celebrations throughout the year and maybe you’ve even booked your trip planning to attend one. Some of the more popular ones include the Annual Low Country Home & Garden Show in January, the Savannah Black Heritage Festival in February, the Savannah Music Festival in March and April, Fourth of July on the River and Christmas on the River and Lighted Parade among many others. Be sure to ask what might be going on.
