Tybee Island is located about 20 to 30 minutes east of Savannah and is a barrier island. It once functioned as protection for the coastline, and old forts and batteries still exist on the north end of the island. Climate on Tybee is generally pleasant all year round. Spring and summer are the warmest, but fresh breezes from the Atlantic tend to mitigate some of the heat. Fall and winter months are definitely cooler, but probably more mild than what most visitors are used to. The warmest month is usually July and the most rain tends to happen in August.
Whichever month you choose to visit Tybee, Southern Belle can help you find the best Tybee Island vacation rental for your stay. If you’re looking for large Tybee Island GA vacation rentals, then you might consider the Bakery property located on Meddin Drive in the northeast section of the island. This location puts it just about 500 feet from the Tybee Lighthouse, as well as Fort Screven, Battery Brumby and Battery Habersham a little further north. North Beach is the closest beach and some visitors like the isolation and quiet of this part of the island compared to the busier south end. However, as Tybee Island only encompasses 2.7 square miles, you’ll actually still be close to everything.
The Bakery property is one of our more interesting vacation rentals on Tybee as it was originally built in 1925 to function as an Army bakery, thus its name. This is also why it’s close to the old military installations of the era. Southern Belle has helped to fully restore this property however, and it is now well-appointed with modern conveniences and amenities. The property can host a total of 10 guests in a 2,200 square foot space with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The front room will greet you with a fantastically rustic feel. All the walls are brick, and wood paneling is on the ceiling and floors as well as exposed rafters. It really gives the feel of an old pub. It’s an expansive room as well and has tons of seating for everyone. The kitchen is right nearby and has an open layout with plenty of counter space and a butcher’s block in the center. There’s a bar here and a big dining area. The rest of the house continues this theme with brick everywhere and either tile or wood floors. One of the bathrooms has a nice soaking tub and another has a standing shower. A washer and dryer are located in the mudroom.
One of the bedrooms has a queen size bed and two others have two twin beds. A den area has two daybeds. You’ll find cable flat-screen TVs and ceiling fans in nearly all the rooms and a lot of charmingly rustic decor. The outside area is just as nice as the inside with a large brick patio and a big built-in BBQ grill. One more outside space is a sun-room with a bench swing, ceiling fan and plenty of other seating.
